Candidate profile
Position
Tour Consultant (B2B/B2C) – Remote | European Customized Tours (Wine & Heritage) | Markets: NA / LATAM / AUS
Mission
Convert inbound and partner-led demand into profitable bookings by designing and selling high-quality European wine, cultural, and historical itineraries, delivering excellent client experience from first inquiry through post-trip follow-up.
Ideal candidate snapshot
A consultative travel seller with strong Europe product knowledge who can build tailor-made itineraries (FIT and small private groups), manage trade partners and direct clients, and communicate fluently across time zones with professional written proposals. Commercially disciplined (margin-focused) and operationally strong (supplier coordination and service recovery).
Core responsibilities (tailored)
B2C (direct travelers)
- Qualify traveler intent (occasion, style, pace, budget, preferences, mobility).
- Design custom itineraries: wine regions, tastings/estates, guides, transfers, boutique hotels, cultural highlights.
- Present proposals clearly (good/better/best or modular options), close bookings, collect deposits, and manage changes.
B2B (partners in NA/LATAM/AUS)
- Support agencies/affiliates with partner-ready quotes, net rates/markup structures, and white-label documents where needed.
- Manage SLAs, allocation/availability, and high-touch trip details; protect profitability while maintaining partner trust.
- Handle group series/light groups when relevant (wine clubs, alumni groups, special interest travel).
Operations & experience delivery
- Coordinate European suppliers (DMCs, wineries, guides, transport, hotels).
- Own documentation: confirmations, vouchers, day-by-day itineraries, terms/cancellation policies.
- Provide disruption management (weather/strikes/overbookings) and service recovery.
Essential knowledge & skills
Europe product competence
- Demonstrable familiarity with key wine regions and logistics (examples: Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne, Rhône/Provence, Tuscany/Piedmont, Rioja/Ribera, Douro, Mosel, Tokaj, etc.).
- Strong grounding in heritage/historical touring (licensed guides, timed entries, museum policies, peak-season constraints).
- Practical routing sense: pacing, drive times, regional clustering, and seasonality.
Customized itinerary design
- Can build day-by-day itineraries quickly with accurate assumptions.
- Skilled in matching experiences to traveler profiles (foodie, luxury, budget, active, senior-friendly, honeymoon, multigenerational).
Commercial strength (sales + margin)
- Consultative selling, objection handling, and closing.
- Comfortable discussing value, trade-offs, and pricing; disciplined with margin and cost control.
- Understands net vs gross pricing; can package and upsell (private guides, premium tastings, upgrades, insurance).
Operational excellence
- Supplier negotiation and confirmation discipline; manages cutoffs, deposits, and cancellation policies.
- High accuracy with traveler names/dates/documentation and payment timelines.
- Calm under pressure; strong service recovery behaviors.
Remote-first communication
- Excellent written proposals and emails; clear inclusions/exclusions and terms.
- Confident on calls/video; adapts tone to B2C vs agency/corporate stakeholders.
- Comfortable working across NA/LATAM/AUS time zones (either shifts or overlap windows).
Experience requirements
- 2–6+ years in tour consulting / tailor-made FIT / DMC / tour operator / premium leisure travel.
- Proven success selling customized European itineraries to North American and/or Australian customers; LATAM exposure is a significant advantage.
- Track record of measurable outcomes (conversion, revenue, margin, repeat rate, CSAT/NPS).
Language requirements
- English fluent (mandatory).
- Spanish or Portuguese (highly preferred due to LATAM market); French/Italian/German are strong additional assets.
Tools & systems (what “ready on day one” means)
- CRM discipline (HubSpot/Salesforce/Pipedrive equivalent): pipeline stages, notes, follow-ups, forecasting.
- Quoting/proposal tools (Google Workspace/M365) and comfort producing client-ready PDFs/itineraries.
- Familiarity with supplier/DMC portals and bedbanks; GDS is optional unless air ticketing is in scope.
- Ticketing/helpdesk (Zendesk/Freshdesk) is a plus for after-sales support.
Behavioral indicators for top performers
- Produces proposals that feel “curated,” not generic; anticipates questions and documents assumptions.
- Thinks in constraints: availability, vineyard booking windows, local regulations, drive-time realism.
- Maintains a structured workflow: checklists, supplier confirmation cadence, and CRM hygiene.
- Protects brand and margin while remaining empathetic during disruptions.
Nice-to-have differentiators
- Luxury/FIT or experiential travel background (wine estates, Michelin, private art historians, VIP access).
- Experience with small groups/special interest series (wine clubs, culinary schools).
- Supplier contracting experience (net rates, allotments, stop-sales, payment terms).
- Deep destination specialization in one or more priority countries (France/Italy/Spain/Portugal).
